There’s Unicorn Armor in Doom Eternal for Twitch Prime Members

Doom Eternal is heavy metal cloaked in iron flesh and given radiant form. The Slayer continues on his warpath against heaven and hell to bring a balance to the world as it's being ripped apart at the seams. Following the stellar reimagining of Doom in 2016, DOOM Eternal has been previewing extremely well and looks to be tripling the blood-soaked action that players have been craving since it was announced. With release imminent, iD and Bethesda are trickling out more juicy details and the latest tidbit involves the various armor styles that can be donned by the Slayer, including a disgustingly pink unicorn armor.

The new trailer’s highlights are of course the retro Doom Guy look and the ridiculous Unicorn Armor. That unicorn may be what players diving into Battle Mode want most but it’s only for those with Twitch Prime, a service that’s paired mostly with Amazon Prime and includes a free subscription that can be given to a Twitch streamer each month, and it must be linked to one’s Bethesda account which notoriously caused problems for the latest ports of the classic games when they initially released. Thankfully, many of the issues of the new ports of the classics have been ironed out and some mod packs were added such as Romero’s return to Doom, SIGIL, a wad that I found to be pretty awesome aside from one problematic area.

According to the video description for these new cosmetics for Doom Eternal, these armors can be used in the main single-player campaign, the aforementioned Battle Mode, and photo mode. Players that go through Twitch Prime will also receive other skins, player animations, and an upgradeable podium, which presumably is for showing off in lobbies.

There’s something really special about seeing a bright pink warrior dripping in entrails. It’s the kind of twisted madness that made Happy Tree Friends so amusing and I’m glad that there’s still a silly side to be found in Doom Eternal.

As a reminder, those who pre-order get a free digital copy of Doom 64 (a reportedly glorious version of that well-received title with new, never before seen levels) and the Rip and Tear Pack featuring: DOOT Revenant Skin, Cultist Base Master Level, and a Throwback Shotgun Weapon Skin. Personally, I’m looking forward to Doom 64, especially the Switch port.

It will also be interesting to see how Doom Eternal on Switch compares to the other versions but I plan on playing Eternal on PC so I’ll leave those observations to others. Almost every preview or early impression I’ve seen of Doom Eternal praises the game’s brilliant dance of death combat which has gotten even more intense and complex with lots of ways to approach taking down the various demons. I’m worried about the game’s new narrative and if the platforming segments are used too often to pad out level traversal but I loved Doom 2016 and I’ve been snagging every Doom-inspired shooter I can find so I’m eager to see what monsters stand in the way of the Slayer this time.
