Roguelite Beat-Em-Up Lost Castle Grows with Old Ones Awake DLC

In a vast sea of games across all platforms, standing out is tough even when there’s success. This is the case for Lost Castle, one of the most popular games from publisher Another Indie. This roguelite RPG beat-em-up developed by Hunter Studio has officially sold 2.3 million copies and will be getting a large DLC update on September 29th. The DLC is titled The Old Ones Awaken and features new levels, enemies, and bosses for a measly $3.99 USD.

Features added via The Old Ones Awaken update include:

  • Explore 2 huge new levels that expand the lore of Castle Harwood!

  • 9 new bosses to defeat including forgotten knights, mysterious kings, and creatures beyond imagining!

  • 20 new enemy types like the mysterious Murloc’s and their powerful shamen.

  • XX Weapons including ones better left forgotten

  • XX suits of Armor to enhance your might or magic.

The Old Ones Awaken definitely hints that we could see some eldritch horrors as bosses and the monsters revealed in the trailer definitely carry the grotesque themes one would expect with such a title. This actually pairs excellently with another upcoming title from the publisher Vigil: The Longest Night which takes those horror elements much further and drops on October 14th. Come to think of it, a lot of Another Indie titles have those eldritch themes as we recently reviewed Elden: Path of the Forgotten

For a game that checks so many boxes, it is odd that I only hear about Lost Castle through Another Indie’s social media accounts. Considering the impressive sales, there must be far more interest in other regions or something. Regardless, I am always on the lookout for fun experiences and games created outside of the usual circles that westerners tend to flock to so Lost Castle is one I’ll be keeping an eye on.

For those looking for a fun roguelite to play with up to four friends, Lost Castle could be the next nightly co-op adventure for gaming groups. The base game is currently available on Steam, PS4, and Nintendo Switch (currently on sale) and is less than ten dollars. Steam will be the only place to play the new DLC content for now but the press release on the matter reveals that the console updates will hit sometime later on. Hunter Studio is also working on an upcoming party fighting game called Drill Man Rumble.
