Resident Evil Showcase Brings Major Updates on Resident Evil 4 Remake and Village DLC

Resident Evil Showcase Delivers Updates Just in Time for Halloween

The spookiest month of the year wouldn’t feel right without some updates on Resident Evil and we got quite the fill today via Capcom’s Resident Evil Showcase. From Resident Evil 4 to Village and beyond, here's the full rundown of the latest announcements.

Resident Evil Village

We’re only a week out from Resident Evil Village’s Winters’ Expansion DLC and while we’ve already had a few looks at its offerings, Capcom has provided one last preview before we play it for ourselves. New Shadows of Rose gameplay was shown, giving us a better look at the story, combat, and monsters that await us. We got more Mercenaries gameplay featuring the previously announced Chris Redfield, Lady Dimitrescu, and Heisenberg with a small tidbit regarding increased enemy chasing and aggression.

Finally, a demo of the DLC’s third-person mode is available now and can be played for up to an hour. The full Winters’ Expansion and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition will launch on October 28th.

Outside of the Winters’ Expansion, we received a few updates on Village’s PSVR2 support including its immersive 4K HDR visuals, improved latency, Tempest 3D audio, and VR2 controller support.

Re:Verse

Launching alongside the Winters’ Expansion is Re:Verse, a new third-person multiplayer shooter set in the Resident Evil universe. The title is free to anyone who owns any version of Resident Evil Village and will support cross-play. Current owners will even get early access to the game starting October 24th. A vague roadmap was also provided, promising at least three content updates after launch.

Resident Evil 4

Finishing off the presentation we got two new trailers for Resident Evil 4 Remake, one focusing further on the story, and one giving us our first substantial look at the gameplay. RE4 veterans will immediately notice an array of small changes to the game’s scenarios, enemies, and gameplay. The atmosphere has definitely been given a major update, going for a much creepier and eerie environment right out of the gate.

Combat is undoubtedly the original RE4’s greatest accomplishment and it appears to remain intact with a wider range of enemy attacks and behaviors. Leon’s inventory case returns with new streamlined crafting features and of course, the iconic merchant sets up shop once again with new upgrades. In regards to the story trailer, fan-favorite characters like Luis and Ada seem to be getting more screen time, and story elements such as Ashley’s infection are being further developed. Everything we’ve seen of the remake so far looks extremely promising, providing a fresh take on one of the most iconic games of all time.

Resident Evil 4 Remake will release for PS4 and PS5 on March 24, 2023. PS4 versions of the game can later be upgraded to a digital PS5 version at no additional cost. Two additional versions of the game were also announced. The deluxe edition will include additional costumes, items, and accessories. The physical collector's edition includes a Leon figure, digital soundtrack, poster, steel book, art book, and more. Physical pre-orders will net you in-game items while digital pre-orders from the PlayStation store will grant players a mini soundtrack.
