Hellpoint Release Date Announced
“Dark Souls meets Dead Space”, that is the description given for the upcoming game Hellpoint from Cradle Games and TinyBuild. Having played Dead Space for the first time this past October, the thought of these two games coming together brings me anxiety. The prospect of that game having the level of challenge that comes with a Dark Souls game is. . . well, I don’t really want to go there. Yet that’s not going to stop this Dark Sci-fi Action RPG from coming out. A release date has been set.
Hellpoint will be coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch on April 16th, 2020.
Along with the release date, a new trailer has been released as well to show off what the game will have to offer.
Narrow dark hallways, a variety of weapons, and some really fun creature designs are all featured in this trailer. A few of which remind me of some of the designs presented in DC Metal comics. There is a strong torture and gothic horror visual direction featuring long thin lines that makes it unsettling to look at. The trailer ends on a fairly creepy mind flayer type of creature smashing its way through the glass from outside.
Hellpoint is set in a world where science and occultism meet to create new horrors, combined with challenging combat that looks to offer a new type of action-horror experience. The easy comparison is of course Bloodborne. I’m excited to see how this one plays out and whether or not it meets the standards of Dark Souls and Dead Space.
Waking up in a space station, Irid Novo, orbiting a supermassive black hole is already enough to set one on edge, but throw in some monsters, you got a recipe for some solid horror.
The biggest challenge this game has compared to other Dark Souls experiences is making a space station interesting for its entire duration. Exploring the world and learning the lore is a big component of those games and it’ll be interesting to see how in-depth Hellpoint pursues that side of genre design.
