Capcom Showcase Reveals more Resident Evil 4 Remake Footage and Screenshots

Capcom Continues to Invest in Resident Evil Franchise

Confirmed recently through the PlayStation State of Play, Capcom revealed that they are in fact working on a remake of the beloved action horror game Resident Evil 4. The game is set for release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam on March 24th, 2023. Capcom shared a few notable announcements during their Capcom Showcase, including more footage of RE4’s gameplay and new screenshots shared through their press hub.

While fans of the Resident Evil franchise seem torn about the need for a remake of a game that’s heralded as exceptional, Capcom seems intent to continue the trend of connecting their best games with lore throughlines. Fans have already discovered symbols that connect the villain of Resident Evil Village to the remake of Resident Evil 4. Capcom has stated through a press release that they want to “deliver modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics” which should result in an excellent remake of a classic.

Personally, my only worry for Resident Evil 4 is that the remake may not have as much content as the original which featured a lengthy campaign, extra modes, and unlockables. Capcom is likely more than aware of how important of a remake Resident Evil 4 is so even if extra modes come as post-launch DLC there is probably lots of effort and funds being poured into it. With the general disappointment of the length of Resident Evil 3, I really hope the release is feature-rich with plenty of improvements without losing the spirit or tone of the original.

Capcom also announced the anxiously awaited extra content for Resident Evil Village. Dubbed the Winters’ Expansion and launching on all platforms on October 28th of this year, players will be getting a new third-person scenario starring Rose Winters (daughter of protagonist Ethan Winters), a third-person mode for the core Village campaign, and new Mercenaries content including a playable Chris Redfield, Heisenberg, and Lady Dimitrescu.

All in all, it is a fantastic time to be a fan of Resident Evil and it looks Capcom is exceptionally committed to putting out high-profile games. As a longtime fan, it’s awesome to see the publisher put out amazing games one after another and the newly announced Street Fighter 6 looks like it might be the most exciting release in that franchise up to this point in time.
