Three Recent Resident Evil Games to get 4K Enhancements in 2022

Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard are all getting next-gen updates that add 4K visuals, ray tracing, 3D audio, and console-specific features in 2022. Released via a press release, Capcom laid out some of their plans for keeping the new era of Resident Evil games relevant as more and more gamers move into higher fidelity play. There are no specific dates yet except for a vague 2022 timeframe; it’s also unclear if all three updates will go out at once or one by one.  

To further elaborate, Capcom cites adding the latest graphical and performance features to these games. They will be re-releasing all three titles on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. PS5 players will be able to play all three titles with Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Trigger features of the DualSense controller. Xbox Series X|S players will benefit from Smart Delivery to ensure the games run as well as they can on those consoles. Those who already own these games can download an upgrade at no additional cost. PC users will also get these features as an update. 

While this is a fairly common practice, we do see companies attempting to shy away from honoring previous sales so it’s nice to see Capcom being player-forward with these updates.

Since RE7, this franchise has seen an extreme improvement in quality. Although I find RE3 to be the weakest of the modern era of survival horror, I would happily replay all three of these games, especially since I find the DualSense controller so compelling. RE2 is almost perfect and it quickly became one of my favorites of the entire franchise, so any excuse to come back to that masterpiece of a horror game is fine by me. I hope to melt into a new level of immersion when the updates become available.
