Nemesis Headlines Latest Resident Evil 3 Remake Trailer

April cannot come soon enough. There are many characters highlighted in the latest trailer for Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 3 but none shined brighter than the one that bellows “STARSSSS” from gritted teeth. Nemesis looks like an absolutely devastating entity and his updated design highlights this unrelenting presence. Capcom also shared a bunch of character details, renders, and screenshots via a press release.

Each of these characters has updated designs from their original appearances. Jill, in particular, ditches the blue tube top for a blue tank top and looks more affected by her situation. Her new look reminds me quite a bit of what was done with Lara Croft in the modern Tomb Raider titles. Her counterpart in the Racoon City incident, Carlos Oliveira is absolutely rocking that hair and made me think of one of my favorite Tekken fighters Miguel Rojo.

In the new trailer, we also get quick peeks at supporting characters such as Brad Vickers, a S.T.A.R.S member who survived the mansion incident or Tyrell Patrick who works for the U.B.C.S. as a security specialist and hacker. The trailer also prominently shows the iconic Hunter monsters which are the grotesque genetic blending of humans with reptiles. Hunters are typically some of the most dangerous regulars in Resident Evil games.

Of course, the big obstacle to overcome in Resident Evil 3 will undoubtedly be Nemesis who looks like a tank and a direct hindrance to Jill and Carlos’ survival. Although, judging by the very end of the trailer, it seems he may have some well-dressed competition. Nemesis in this trailer sports a massive flamethrower and sheer stature. It’s also in these moments that one can admire the graphical fidelity that Capcom seems to be offering once again with the RE Engine. So far, every game crafted in that engine looks and runs beautifully.

Since Resident Evil 2 was such a monumental release for me personally, I am absolutely ecstatic to play a similar treatment of Resident Evil 3. I have hardly any experience with the PSX RE3 and I actually made the decision to hold off playing it to experience Nemesis to the fullest. Capcom has been injecting their games with lots of extras and near flawless execution to the point that my expectations for this release may be too high. I hope to also find the bundled Resistance enjoyable but I don’t see myself playing it for long. If a community builds around it, similar to what has happened with Dead by Daylight, it could be a surprising addition to the game. Regardless if that multiplayer mode is entertaining, there have to be enough people playing to warrant add-ons and such.

The recent delay of Final Fantasy VII Remake to April 10th also makes me worry about the reception for RE3. Before that delay, I had set aside some time both in March and April for these games. Now it may be harder to get both games in and I imagine anyone with budget concerns and similar tastes will have a big decision to make if they plan to buy at launch.

Regardless, Resident Evil 3 is one of my most anticipated games for 2020 and I cannot wait to stare down the beast that is Nemesis.

Resident Evil 3 is hitting PS4, Steam, and Xbox One on April 3rd and includes the Resident Evil Resistance multiplayer game. More information can be found on the official website.
