Sony Announces PlayStation Showcase for May 24th

Updates to many of Sony’s upcoming titles incoming…

The season is heating up for all the mid-year gaming announcements, and Sony has taken the initiative to start now. As announced earlier today, PlayStation will present a showcase on May 24th, beginning at 3 PM Eastern / 6 PM Pacific Time. Following the lead of several other companies, Sony will use this time to present a look at their upcoming lineups for the PSVR2 as well as the PS5. This showcase follows on the heels of the State of Play that aired on April 13th, which primarily focused on the gameplay elements of Square Enix’s upcoming Final Fantasy XVI.

While the quarterly State of Play streams are more focused on looks at certain projects, this upcoming PlayStation Showcase will give the company ample time to spotlight titles that players have been anticipating. With updates still running from Insomniac Games that their sequel to the groundbreaking Spider-Man game is on track for 2023, many viewers are craving some gameplay shown for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. If we really are getting this sequel this year, it’s possible that Insomniac could have another teaser for their next Marvel project, Marvel’s Wolverine.

Square Enix also could use this opportunity to give an update on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second entry in their FF7 remake trilogy. Horror fans could have their patience rewarded with gameplay from the upcoming SILENT HILL 2 remake, though any new updates on Alan Wake 2 would most likely be well received. Finally, since NetherRealm Studios has teased that a first look at the next Mortal Kombat is happening later this week, Sony has an opportunity to offer first-look gameplay in this entry. In summary, PlayStation could very well have a stacked show for viewers next week.
